Dear Saints community,
On Wednesday morning we awoke to horrific news; eight lives were lost in a series of shootings at massage parlors in Atlanta, Georgia. Six of these victims were Asian-American women. While there is much to learn about how and why these senseless attacks occurred, we know that hate and animosity towards our Asian American and Pacific Islander communities has been on the rise since the start of the pandemic. This violence has particularly targeted women and the elderly.
As a Benedictine community, we condemn these acts of racism and misogyny. We condemn these atrocities that impact the safety and mental health of our own Asian-American students, faculty and staff.
To our Asian-American brothers and sisters, we stand in solidarity and mourn with you. You, and all of our BIPOC community, are beloved and welcomed members of the St. Scholastica family. Our prayers are with you, and the families of these victims, always.
Holding you in our thoughts,
Dr. Amy Bergstrom, Chief Diversity Officer
Dr. Barbara McDonald, President
