Career Outlook

Expertise in working with children with disabilities is in higher demand than ever. In Minnesota, special education remains a top licensure shortage area, with nearly 2,000 vacant positions projected for the 2026-2027 school year.

However, the value of this minor extends far beyond the classroom. Whether you are pursuing a career in Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, or Physical Therapy, understanding neurodiversity and disability rights is a significant competitive advantage. Employers in healthcare and human services look for leaders who can navigate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), understand behavioral interventions, and advocate for equitable access.
