Student Health Service

St. Scholastica’s Student Health Service is staffed with health care providers that can evaluate your concerns, answer questions and help you be the healthiest version of yourself. Our team is here to help with student health symptoms, billing, immunization compliance and other questions.

Who is Eligible for Service?

  • All full-time undergraduate students taking 9 or more credits
  • All full-time graduate students taking 6 or more credits

All other students may choose to opt-in and pay the Student Health Fee to access Student Health Service.

Available Services

Student Health Service provides a variety of services including immunizations, basic exams, full laboratory services and tests, and counseling and referrals.

Student Health Fee

What is the Student Health Fee?

The Student Health Fee is placed on student accounts Fall and Spring semester automatically for full-time undergraduate students with 9 or more credits. Additionally, the fee is applied each semester for graduate students taking 6 or more credits or those enrolled in the following graduate programs listed below.

The Summer Student Health Fee is applied to students living in the residence halls on the St. Scholastica main campus in the summer, as well as students taking one or more summer class credits on the main campus or in the graduate programs listed below:

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Athletic Training
  • Physician Assistant
  • Exercise Physiology

Cost

The fee is $130 per fall and spring semesters and $50 for summer semester. All other students who may want to receive health care in Student Health Service may opt-in for this by contacting OneStop.

Charges Not Covered by the Student Health Fee

Items that are not covered by the Student Health Fee are charged to the student’s personal/student health insurance. Any charges that are not covered will be placed on the student’s account through admissions.

Student Health Insurance

In the interest of the health and welfare of its students, it is the policy of The College of St. Scholastica to require that undergraduate and graduate main campus students to be covered by medical health insurance by the College or privately. For more information about your St. Scholastica student health insurance plan, click here: First Student.

All full-time domestic undergraduate students taking 9 or more credit hours at the Duluth main campus (including the Health Science Center at Bluestone) are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance plan unless proof of comparable coverage is furnished.

Additionally, all domestic graduate students taking 6 or more credit hours who are enrolled at the Duluth main campus and the Health Science Center at Bluestone in the following programs are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance plan unless proof of comparable coverage is furnished:

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Athletic Training
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Physician Assistant
  • Post-Baccalaureate Nursing (Duluth Campus)

International students regardless of credit hours are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance plan.

Students will either have to acquire the student health insurance offered through UnitedHealthcare Student Resources or provide proof of other insurance. Students who do not either obtain the College’s health insurance or provide proof of other insurance by Sept. 10, 2021, will automatically be enrolled in the Student Health Insurance plan through UnitedHealthcare. The total cost for the college student health insurance for the 2021-2022 academic year is:

  • Undergraduate Rate: $2,363.00
  • Graduate Rate: $3,226.00

For those students who are not covered by their own insurance plan, St. Scholastica believes that it has found the best possible student health insurance plan available at a rate that is affordable to students. Coverage for any of the school health insurance plans begins on Aug. 2 and ends on Aug. 1 of the following year.

  • First-year or transfer students transferring in January: Student health insurance policies will be effective from Jan. 1 to Aug. 1. Students beginning in January will have a one-time charge of $1,376.50 for undergraduate students and $1,880.50 for graduate students.
  • International students: All International students regardless of credit hours at the Duluth Main Campus and Health Science Center at Bluestone are automatically enrolled in this insurance plan.
  • Student Athletes: St. Scholastica athletes are required to have medical health insurance by the College or privately. In addition, athletes are provided secondary athletic insurance through Dissinger Reed, at no personal cost.

Opting into Student Health Insurance or Providing Proof of Insurance

A student must opt into the Student Health Insurance plan through St. Scholastica or provide proof of other insurance by by Sept. 10, 2021. The premium charged for Student Health Insurance will be billed to the student’s account.

Opt-in or provide proof of insurance using the steps below:

  • Log in to my.CSS, search “OneStop Checklist” and choose #7b on the OneStop Student Services Checklist
  • Select to either opt in to Student Health Insurance or provide proof of other insurance. If you are providing proof of other insurance, please have it available in order to provide all of the required information.

Important Considerations

Please note that some HMO plans do not provide adequate coverage outside of the carrier’s home area. Therefore, we recommend that students who are considering waiving the Student Health Insurance provided by the College review their current health insurance policy to ensure that it adequately covers them while attending St. Scholastica.

Using Student Health Insurance at Healthcare Facilities

St. Scholastica’s Student Health Insurance is intended to be utilized like any other health insurance plan. However, it’s not a dental or optical insurance policy. Students should present their St. Scholastica Student Health Insurance card to the health care facility in which they are presenting for services. This includes Student Health Service. Students who have St. Scholastica Student Health Insurance should present it to Student Health Service first for any medical concerns when possible. Charges from Student Health Service that are not covered by the insurance company will be placed on student accounts. Charges from other health facilities that are not covered by the Student Health Insurance will be billed out by the individual health facility. Students can stop by Student Health Service for assistance and any other billing concerns in regards to St. Scholastica Student Health Insurance payments.

Immunization Requirements

Minnesota’s College Immunization Law

Minnesota law (M.S. 135A.14) requires all students born after Dec. 31, 1956, who enroll in a Minnesota college to be immunized against tetanus, diphtheria, measles, mumps and rubella. Minnesota law requires colleges to provide information on transmission, treatment, and prevention of hepatitis A, B, C and meningococcal disease.

Required Immunizations

St. Scholastica requires all new incoming students (first year and transfer) to verify immunization history and complete the online tuberculosis screening form.

Immunization history forms are on file at most high schools and colleges, as well as Primary Care Clinics. Contact these sites directly to request/obtain immunization records. CSS Student Health Service has immunizations available for administration as needed.

Required

  • One (1) Tetanus-Diphtheria-acellular Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine (from ages 11-18). Individuals 19 or older who have not received a dose of Tdap should receive one dose of Tdap. NOTE: Tdap is not the same as the other vaccines containing some or even all of the vaccine components (D-T-A-P) such as DTap, Td or DT. Either Td or Tdap can be administered as a booster dose every 10 years.
  • One (1) Meningococcal (Meningitis ACWY) vaccine AFTER age sixteen (16), may be given up to age 23.
  • Two (2) Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccines, the first vaccine ON OR AFTER age one (1) and at least 12 weeks apart if vaccinated between ages 1-12 and at least 4 weeks apart if vaccinated age 13 or older OR positive MMR antibody.
  • Two (2) Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccines, the first vaccine ON OR AFTER age one (1) and at least 12 weeks apart if vaccinated between ages 1-12 and at least 4 weeks apart if vaccinated age 13 or older OR positive varicella antibody.
  • COVID-19 Vaccine (FDA and WHO approved COVID-19 vaccine)
    • Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine (Comirnaty, Tozinameran)
    • Moderna COVID-19 vaccine
    • Johnson & Johnson/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine
    • Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine (Covishield, Vaxzevria)
    • Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine
    • Sinovac-CoronaVac COVID-19 vaccine

You Are Fully Vaccinated for COVID-19 2 weeks after the second dose in a 2-dose series OR 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine. If you don’t meet these requirements, regardless of your age, you are NOT fully vaccinated.

  • Meningitis B Vaccination for young adults ages 16 through 23

Submit Your Immunization Records

Student Health Service (SHS) requires immunization records for verification. Submit records directly to SHS via mail, email or fax. The time frame for submitting immunization records is Monday, Aug. 23-Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021.

  • Mail to CSS Student Health Service, 1200 Kenwood Avenue, Somers Hall Room 42, Duluth MN 55811
  • Take a photo and email it to studenthealthservice@css.edu
  • Fax a copy to 218-723-5953

Tuberculosis Screening Form

You can access your CSS account the first day of Fall Semester. You only have ONE chance to access the TB Screening Questionnaire. It is not possible to access this form to edit or update after the initial attempt. Fill out to the best of your ability. Contact SHS to facilitate any update to your TB Screening Questionnaire Form.

  • Log into your MyHealth account
  • Enter date of birth (DOB)
  • Click proceed and select forms (on the left)
  • Select the Tuberculosis Screening Form

Complete this task by Sept. 14, 2021.

Medical or Conscientious Exemption Forms

Students who would like to claim a medical or conscientious exemption to vaccinations should print, complete and return the form to Student Health Service. You will also be required to set up an appointment with the Nurse Practitioner to discuss and review your exemption in order to be compliant.

MyHealth

MyHealth is an electronic health portal where students can:

  • Submit health history
  • Make an appointment with a registered nurse
  • Send messages to health care providers
  • Request prescription refills
  • Complete release of information requests
  • View and print immunization records

JED Campus

St. Scholastica is collaborating with The Jed Foundation to enhance the mental health work already being done on campus and creates positive, lasting change.

Confidential, professional clinicians are available to assist St. Scholastica students in addressing the feelings and stressors of college life and other critical personal concerns.
