The ability to speak a second language opens up countless doors, from travel abroad to making a difference in your own community. The Hispanic/Latino population is the fastest-growing in the United States, and the ability to speak Spanish will only become more sought-after by employers.
All new first-year applicants to St. Scholastica will be awarded either the Benedictine Scholarship or the Access Award, upon admission to the College.

An internship or service-learning placement is required for students who major in Spanish. Historically, most St. Scholastica students have completed this requirement through the College’s Cuernavaca Quest program or through HECUA’s Community Internships in Latin America program to Ecuador.

People who are fluent in Spanish are in demand for a variety of positions, particularly in fields such as healthcare where knowledge of Spanish is crucial. Graduates of this program have found work in nonprofit organizations, as teachers of Spanish in public schools, as teachers of English in Spanish-speaking countries, and in a variety of public service or healthcare providers where knowledge of Spanish is crucial. Others have gone on to pursue graduate degrees at medical schools.
