Commencement 2017

More than 700 students are expected to participate in commencement exercises for St. Scholastica at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12 in the Amsoil Arena at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.

There are 590 undergraduate candidates for graduation, and 412 graduate candidates. About 720 are expected to take part in the ceremony. The top undergraduate majors are nursing, exercise physiology, and psychology.

The commencement keynote speaker will be Duluth Mayor Emily Larson, a 1995 graduate of St. Scholastica's social work program.

"We are so pleased that Mayor Larson will be a part of this special day for our college," said St. Scholastica President Colette Geary. "As an alumna of the College, her presence and message will be all the more meaningful to our graduates and their families."

Gabriel Graves, recipient of the 2018 Student Leadership Award, will provide the student address.

Christopher Dolan, Class of 2001 and chair of the St. Scholastica Board of Trustees, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. The Duluth Scottish Heritage Pipers, David Bouschor and David Vosen, will play a processional and recessional.

Musical selections will include "Miziiweykaamikiinaang - Honor Song" by the American Indian Drum Group Wolf Clan; "America the Beautiful" featuring vocalists Michael Moxley and Sun Ny Vang accompanied by the St. Scholastica Jazz Band; and "This Little Light of Mine," arranged by Mark Henderson and Michael Buck and performed by the St. Scholastica Jazz Band and vocalists Lauren Cooper, Aine Miller, Abbilyn Primus and Shelby Schiller.

The day's activities will also include a Baccalaureate Mass service at 9:30 a.m. in the Mitchell Auditorium and a Graduation Brunch from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Greenview Dining Room on campus.
