Duluth artist Sarah Brokke Erickson has spent a year painting portraits of 35 fellow artists who inspire her, and she'll discuss the project during a faculty colloquium Friday at St. Scholastica.
Erickson, a lecturer of art at St. Scholastica, will discuss her "Portrait of an Artist" project from 3:40 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. Friday, May 1 in room 4119 of Tower Hall on campus. Brokke Erickson will discuss the importance of portraits in the world of art today, as well as the project's conceptual investigation of gratitude and the impact of artists on one another.
Brokke Erickson received a Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant for the project, which will be chronicled in a book and a documentary. Starting in October, the portraits will be displayed in an exhibition at the Duluth Art Institute.
The colloquium is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.
