Hundreds of need-based and non-need-based academic scholarships are available from a variety of sources. To help you identify and successfully apply for these scholarships, we’ve created a directory of scholarships.

 

Grants

Federal Pell Grant

The Pell Grant is a federal grant awarded to undergraduate students who demonstrate high or extreme financial need based on the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Learn more about the Federal Pell Grant.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

SEOG is a federal grant awarded to undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need based on the results of the FAFSA. Students also must be Pell Grant eligible to receive this award. Learn more about FSEOG.

Minnesota Postsecondary Child Care Grant

This grant is awarded to undergraduate students who incur daycare expenses while they are attending college. Grant funding varies according to income and family size. The maximum award amount is $2,300 for each eligible child per academic year. A student must be eligible for the Minnesota State Grant to be considered. Recipients must not be receiving assistance from the Minnesota Family Investment Program. Learn more about the Minnesota Postsecondary Child Care Grant.

Minnesota State Grant

Students are eligible for the Minnesota State Grant if they meet the Minnesota residency requirement(s) and have attended less than the equivalent of four full-time academic years of post-secondary education as defined by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education. The grant amount is based on the results of the FAFSA and current state legislation. Learn more about the Minnesota State Grant.

Discounts and other Student Aid

Alumni Referral Award

Alumni of The College of St. Scholastica are encouraged to recommend the college to friends and family who may benefit from a St. Scholastica education. There is a limit of one Alumni Referral Scholarship per alum. The Alumni Referral Scholarship may not be used in addition to any other College referral or discount. This scholarship is for first-time undergraduate extended studies or online students only, international students are not eligible. Full-time students may receive up to a $300 maximum per academic year ($100 per semester). A student must be enrolled at least 6+ credits/semester. Application Deadline: Before the start of classes in the student’s first semester. Final determination of eligibility will be made by Admissions and Financial Aid office. The Alumni Referral Form must be completed prior to the start of classes in the student’s first semester at St. Scholastica.

Benedictine or Essentia Health System Facility Discount

If you are employed at least .8 with a Benedictine or Essentia Health System Facility, you may be eligible for a 15% tuition discount at the College of St. Scholastica. The 15% discount applies to any number of credits at the undergraduate or graduate levels for fall, spring or summer semesters. The discount pertains to employees only and does not extend to family members. The discount can not be combined with other discounts and cannot exceed the cost of tuition when combined with other CSS financial aid.

Catholic Student Referral Scholarship

Deadline: Before the start of classes in the student’s first semester at CSS.
Amount: up to a $300 maximum per academic year ($100 per semester).

The Catholic Referral Scholarship is for incoming undergraduate students who have a referral form filled out by a priest, sister or other vowed religious. However, lay persons with leadership positions within the Catholic Church also may make referrals. Student must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. Application Deadline: Before the start of classes in the student’s first semester. A student must be enrolled at least 6+ credits/semester.

Clinical Agency Discount

The College of St. Scholastica partners with area healthcare providers to be able to offer St. Scholastica students a professional clinical setting to apply theoretical knowledge to actual practice. Employees at the clinical site, who are providing professional guidance to students, may be eligible for a St. Scholastica tuition discount. The employee must be enrolled in an eligible undergraduate or graduate-level program. The 50% discount on tuition can be used for up to four undergraduate or graduate-level credits during fall, spring or summer semesters. The discount cannot be combined with any other college discount, cannot exceed the cost of tuition when combined with other CSS financial aid and cannot be used in conjunction with the Benedictine Health Care Facility Employee Discount.

CSS Legacy Scholarship

Application: Application is part of admissions app. Contact your admissions counselor for further assistance.
Amount: 5% of tuition

  • Student must have graduated from St. Scholastica (or)
  • Student must have a spouse, sibling, step-sibling, parent, step-parent, grandparent, step-grandparent, child, stepchild who graduated from The College of St. Scholastica

Student will be a domestic, full-time student in any of our undergraduate or graduate programs, online or at our extended sites.

Student must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as defined by the College.

This scholarship is not awarded summer semester.

*Occupational Therapy, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Physician’s Assistant programs are exempt from this award.

Please note: this scholarship cannot be combined with the Multiple Family or Alumni Referral Scholarship. The College retains the right to change this policy and rate at any time.

Meaningful Work Award

St. Scholastica is dedicated to providing our students with the intellectual and moral preparation for responsible living and meaningful work. Many organizations and businesses provide opportunities for such work and are tightly aligned with our own mission. In an effort to support both the organization and its employees, we’ve developed the Meaningful Work Award.

Multiple Family Member Discount

St. Scholastica offers a discount to students where two or more family members from the same immediate family are attending. This includes siblings or step-siblings, parent/child or stepparent/stepchild, or spouses. Students must be registered full-time at The College of St. Scholastica during the same enrollment period (currently defined as a semester). This discount is available for fall and spring semesters only; it is not available for summer semester. The discount amount will be 5% for each student. The College retains the right to change this policy and rate at any time. College of St. Scholastica employees and their dependents are not eligible for this discount. International students are not eligible for this discount. This discount cannot be applied retroactively. The Multiple Family Member Discount will be adjusted to ensure that all scholarships, grants, remissions, or discounts (from any source) do not exceed the student’s cost of tuition.

Saints Succeed

The College provides Saints Succeed Scholarships for several of our graduate programs.

Awarded: Multiple scholarships from $1,500-$3,500 will be awarded to students
Terms: Fall, spring and summer starts
Submission deadline: Dependent on program

Steps to apply:

  1. Entrants must be accepted into the program for the next program start
  2. Submit the Scholarship Submission Form below and upload a 140 character tweet, meme or 30 second video addressing your commitment to serving the needs of your industry or profession
  3. Entries will be scored on creativity and incorporation of the Benedictine Values. Prerequisite GPA at the time of application will also be worked into selection criteria.
  4. Student must be full time (6+ credits) to receive award

Saints Teach Scholarship

Eligible programs: Elementary Education Degree Completion Program or Graduate Teaching Licensure

At The College of St. Scholastica we believe in the Catholic Benedictine values that guide education. We also believe that our alumni have the capacity to change our world for the better.

To support this vision, the College has created the Saints Teach Scholarship. Three (3) $800 scholarships will be awarded to students who enter the Elementary Education Degree Completion Program.

Saints Teach Scholarship Criteria:

  • Must apply for the program before filling out scholarship application
  • Meet admissions criteria and be accepted to the program
  • Must begin their program fall semester
  • Scholarship funds must be applied to the first fall semester tuition
  • The offer is non-transferable
  • Only new or current applicants are eligible
  • Preference given to students from historically underrepresented populations

Senior Citizen Discount

The College of St. Scholastica offers a discount to seniors that are a minimum of 65 years of age at the time of enrollment. The 75% discount applies to 1 undergraduate course up to a maximum of 4 credits each semester. Apply by completing the Senior Citizen Discount Form prior to each semester.

Study Buddy Scholarship

You, and a friend (or a group) who enroll in an eligible program together will each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Learn more about the Study Buddy Scholarship.

Many employers, clubs, religious affiliations and organizations offer scholarships. You won’t know if you don’t ask! There are also thousands of scholarship opportunities made available online.
