Northern Star: Noah Kubicek ’26
As the indoor track and field season reaches its peak, St. Scholastica senior Noah Kubicek ’26 is making sure his final year as a Saint is one for the record books. The sprinter has hit his stride, capturing first place in both the 200 and 400-meter dash events at each of the team’s last three meets.
For Kubicek, an Exercise Physiology major from Owatonna, MN, the recent string of victories is the result of years of preparation and steady approach. “Basically just execution at this point,” he shared with Fox 21 Online. “I’m pretty confident that I’ve put in the work throughout the last four years and that’s transitioned into my experience racing this year.”
While Kubicek’s individual performance has been remarkable, his impact on the program extends far beyond the finish line. Associate Head Coach Jeff Cottrell has noted a significant shift in Kubicek’s presence within the team this year: “That confidence in his abilities has turned him into an amazing leader as well. I mean he’s always been a great leader, but there’s been other good leaders on the team. Now, this year, it’s really been kind of his time to step into that role.
Despite the individual accolades, Kubicek remains focused on the program’s collective growth. “It’s cool to continue to break a school record, but when we have countless school records going down … it’s the whole program that’s succeeding and getting better,” Kubicek said. “It says a lot about the coaches and this athletic community as a whole and not just myself individually.”
Kubicek and the Saints look to carry this momentum into the postseason as they head to Carleton College this Friday for the MIAC Indoor Championships.
