The College of St. Scholastica hosts fall Community Day in the Twin Ports

Over 640 students, faculty, and staff from The College of St. Scholastica participated in service projects throughout the Twin Ports as part of Community Day on Wednesday, Oct. 1. A tradition since 1999, Community Day reflects the College’s commitment to fostering student connections with the community, encouraging ongoing engagement and volunteerism.

Classes were canceled for the day to allow for participation in various volunteer efforts. Among the many organizations involved, the Duluth-Sailing Association hosted a group of volunteers from the Exercise Physiology Club. “We’re assisting the Duluth-Superior Sailing Association with taking boats out of the water, taking the docks out of the water, helping out however we can,” explained Ryan Auge ’26.

“It’s just a great day to get out in the community, making connections,” Sofia Fischer ’26 added. “I feel like it really helps connect, especially like the freshmen, who are in a separate town away from their parents. It helps them to get to know where they are and who’s around and what to do.”

Other volunteer sites included the Lake Superior Zoo, Maji Ya Chai Land Sanctuary, Forest Hills Cemetery, and Loaves & Fishes. Through Community Day, the College emphasizes leadership, service, and civic responsibility, while making a positive impact on the lives of others.
