Wilderness Medicine Course Information and Registration

Available Courses

May 31 – June 4 — Wilderness First Responder (Hybrid Course)

Cost: $625

Wilderness First Responder (Hybrid) is the industry standard for people who work or have a leadership role in remote and wilderness-type environments, including wilderness guides and trip leaders, camp counselors, research expedition members, higher education outdoor professionals, school forest and nature-based educators, and search and rescue team members. The WFR course is also an excellent option for individuals who are seeking intensive medical training to be prepared during personal wilderness trips or extended expeditions, for medical professionals seeking ways to apply their skills outside of the clinic setting, and for people who live and work in remote areas or locations that are prone to natural disasters whose aftermath may delay emergency response.

The Hybrid course format is perfect for people with limited time. Instead of the traditional 9-10 day format, the hybrid course consists of ~35 hours of self-paced online pre-course work which must be completed before the 5-day (~45 hours) in-person learning.

June 7 – June 8 — Wilderness First Aid

Cost: $275

Wilderness First Aid is a 2-day (16-hour) course designed to prepare individuals for emergency medical response in remote wilderness and outdoor environments where access to medical care may be delayed. This course prepares individuals for risk assessment and decision-making in addition to performing patient assessments, administering aid for common injuries and illnesses, and preparing them for extended care situations with limited resources. This course is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who want to be prepared while exploring the wilderness with friends and family or professionals working in remote environments.

June 7 – June 8 — Wilderness First Responder Recertification

Cost: $300

Wilderness First Responder Recertification is a 2-day (16-hour) training focused on knocking off the rust and refreshing your WFR skills. If you have a certification that is expiring or within the grace period of the issuing organization, join us to refresh your skills and renew your certification. With an emphasis on hands-on skill practice through scenarios and discussion of real-life experiences, we will increase your confidence and teach you the most current information and practices.

More information can be found by visiting the Longleaf Wilderness Medicine website for course information and to register for a course.
