Students look forward to May 9 commencement ceremony

St. Scholastica will conduct its Spring 2015 Commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9 at Amsoil Arena, 350 Harbor Drive, Duluth.

The combined baccalaureate, master's and doctoral ceremony will have 862 candidates for graduation.

A total of 580 bachelor's degrees, 210 master's degrees, and 72 doctoral degrees will be awarded.

Rocklon Chapin, CEO/President of Benedictine Health System, will give the commencement address. With more than 35 years of experience in the healthcare industry, Chapin joined the Benedictine Health System in January 2013 and served as senior vice president of business development and strategic planning before being chosen as CEO/President in January 2014. He holds a master's degree in health care administration from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor's degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

Prior to commencement, there will be a 9:30 a.m. Mass in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel on campus, followed by a graduation brunch in the Greenview Dining Room from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The Duluth Scottish Heritage Pipers will lead the graduates in the processional and recessional. Musical selections will include an Honor Song performed by Wolf Clan, an American Indian Drum Group, and a performance of "America the Beautiful" by tenor music department instructor Bill Bastian. The College of St. Scholastica Steel Band, led by assistant music professor Jeremy Craycraft, will perform "Mambo" by the Skiffle Bunch Steel Orchestra, arranged by Jeffrey A. Jones.

The St. Scholastica Alumni Association will host a reception for graduates and their guests immediately after the ceremony in the Harborside Ballroom at the DECC.
