The Department of Health Informatics and Health Information (HIIM) of The College of St. Scholastica will host the annual LaTour Eichenwald Forum on HIIM Leadership and Innovation on Thursday, Nov. 16. Guest speaker Dr. Shauna Overgaard will discuss the impact and possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI) in the realm of healthcare innovation.

Dr. Overgaard is the manager of artificial intelligence at the Mayo Clinic. In this role she leads the development and application of standardized approaches to create, test, implement, and monitor AI-based digital solutions, including developing the Mayo Clinic AI Evaluation and Documentation Framework. Dr. Overgaard also established the Mayo Clinic AI Translation Advisory Board for multidisciplinary AI translation and enterprise integration.

This year’s Forum will take place in the Somers Hall Lounge on the Duluth main campus from 4 to 6 p.m. The Forum begins with a social at 4 p.m. and is followed by a brief welcome before Dr. Overgaard’s presentation at 4:35 p.m. A reception will follow the presentation between 5:30 and 6 p.m.

The Forum honors the pioneering spirit of two of Health Information Management’s most highly regarded professionals, Kathleen LaTour and the late Shirley Eichenwald Maki. LaTour and Eichenwald Maki retired in 2012 from St. Scholastica’s HIIM Department after a combined seven-plus decades of national leadership in education and in the profession.
