The College of St. Scholastica

The College will officially welcome a new generation of Saints into its Benedictine community during Welcome Weekend, Friday, Sept. 3-Monday, Sept. 6. All first-year students are required to participate in the weekend’s festivities to become familiar with their new home away from home and to begin building community with fellow classmates.

Events kick off with Somers residence hall move-in on Friday morning, followed by a free community lunch for students and their families in the Greenview Dining Hall. Participants will also spend time meeting with faculty and staff, finding ways to get involved, learning how to be academically successful, familiarizing themselves with student support services and ultimately discovering how to experience the College’s Benedictine values in action.

On Sunday, students will participate in their first Dignitas class session. On Monday, students are invited to explore the greater Duluth community with planned outings to Canal Park and Chester Bowl.

Student activities director Kaitie Selleck describes the events as a “weekend of magic.”

“We have a wonderful group of upperclassmen who have stepped up to be Delta Leaders, students who volunteer their time to move in early and show our new students what CSS is all about,” she said. “Going to college and moving out of the house is exciting, but there are usually a whole lot of nerves. Our welcome weekend curriculum and our Deltas help ease the transition into college life while introducing students to our Benedictine values.”
