The College of St. Scholastica has announced the appointment of Michael Wendinger, EdD, ATC, CSCS as the inaugural dean of the School of Health Professions, assuming his duties on July 1.

Dr. Wendinger has served as an adjunct instructor in the MS Athletic Training program at the College since 2010 and currently serves as its program director. Prior to his time at St. Scholastica, Dr. Wendinger worked for the University of Minnesota since 1998 in various leadership positions, including director of Sports Medicine Services, assistant athletic director and faculty in the Applied Human Sciences department.

“I have great enthusiasm for the Benedictine values and am excited about the opportunity to participate in the success of CSS and am pleased to play a role in moving its mission forward,” shared Dr. Wendinger. “I am more than thrilled to bring my 24 years of experience as a healthcare professional and educational leader to The College of St. Scholastica in this new role.”

Dr. Wendinger has devoted his career to teaching, managing and leading academic and
co-curricular programs at higher education institutions. His preparation for this
leadership position includes a doctoral degree in education from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, a master’s degree in Physical Education and Athletic Training from Western Michigan University, and a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Dr. Ryan Sandefer, vice president for Academic Affairs, would like to express his sincere gratitude to the search committee, especially to co-chairs Dr. Kelly Erickson and Dr. Elisa Schmitz. “The Search Committee conducted a comprehensive and diligent process for this key leadership position,” stated Dr. Sandefer. “Their generous time and effort are greatly appreciated.”
