Announcing the recipient and finalists for the Student Leadership Award
It is with great excitement that The College of St. Scholastica announces Maddy Ploof ’25 as the recipient of the Student Leadership Award. Ploof’s exceptional leadership, dedication and service have enriched the campus community in innumerable ways.
About Maddy Ploof
Maddy Ploof has made significant contributions to academic life on campus while serving as a role model both in the classroom and beyond. As the Student Body President, she has been a tireless advocate for her peers, opening channels of communication among diverse student groups and helping to navigate complex changes in leadership and policy. In this role, Ploof has consistently demonstrated unwavering professionalism, compassion and commitment to ensuring every student’s voice is heard.
Beyond her impactful work in student government, Ploof shines as a talented undergraduate writing consultant in the Rose Warner Writing and Critical Thinking Center. In this capacity, she has established herself as an excellent writing mentor, guide and cheerleader for fellow students. She helps students tackle challenging writing assignments, craft personal statements and perfect scholarship essays with clarity and confidence. Ploof’s approach — supportive, patient and thoughtfully tailored — has inspired many to overcome self-doubt and embrace academic challenges as opportunities to grow, reflect and succeed.
Moreover, Ploof embodies the Benedictine values that are the heart of The College of St. Scholastica. She lives the principles of hospitality by warmly welcoming every student into the SGA office and cultivating an environment of care and openness. Her stewardship is evident in how she diligently addresses student concerns — whether documenting issues ranging from broken facilities to ensuring respectful living and learning environments. Ploof’s commitment to fostering a love of learning and a true sense of community is reflected in every interaction, meeting and initiative she leads. Her thoughtful, deliberate and innovative approach to leadership not only enhances campus life but also sets a powerful example for the entire student body.

About Emily Wetzel
Emily Wetzel has excelled across multiple dimensions of campus life. Her leadership in music ensembles, her support as a tutor in science courses and her role as a student guide for Outdoor Pursuit all contribute to a vibrant and spirited campus community. Her dedication to service is evident in every endeavor, making her an exceptional candidate for this honor.
About Kelly Crump
Kelly Crump demonstrates outstanding leadership as a General Senator of the Student Government Association, Co-President of the SWK Club, Welcome Leader for Team Delta and through her volunteer work with the Community Service Organization. Crump embodies the Benedictine values through her commitment to learning, community, respectful interactions, radical hospitality and personal stewardship. Her well-rounded approach to leadership — balancing academic excellence with service — and her ability to uplift those around her make her a truly deserving finalist.
