For the 27th year, thousands of community members were able to enjoy a traditional turkey dinner for Thanksgiving, thanks to the efforts of hundreds of volunteers and generous donors.
Organizer Monica Hendrickson estimates that this year's Twin Ports Thanksgiving Buffet fed 4,000 people at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center. Additionally, about 1,400 meals were delivered to homebound residents of Duluth, Two Harbors, Cloquet and Carlton, and 1,700 bag lunches were distributed at the DECC.
St. Scholastica is the Buffet's institutional sponsor, and partners with many local businesses and organizations to make the event a success. All leftover food is donated to the Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, and much of the Buffet's waste is recycled. The Duluth Transit Authority helped out by providing free transportation to the DECC.
