Jane Austen expert to speak on campus

A Harvard University professor and renowned expert on author Jane Austen will bring her insights on the writer's ongoing popularity during a free lecture at St. Scholastica on March 16.

Deidre Shauna Lynch will lecture on the topic of Jane Austen fandom at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 16 on campus in the Science Center auditorium, room S2122. Lynch is one of North America's leading scholars on Austen and the author of "Janeites: Austen's Disciples and Devotees."

A reception will follow in the Benedictine Commons.

Lynch has studied and written extensively about Britain's Romantic Period and the history of women as writers. She has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Humanities Center, the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh, and the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.

The program has been made possible through an anonymous grant with the goal of enhancing students' and community members' knowledge about Jane Austen and her fans.
