The scholarships listed below are for our traditional “day” transfer students on the Duluth campus. The College retains the right to adjust scholarship levels and rates at any time.

Transfer Scholarships Based on Admission Application

No additional application is necessary for these scholarships. All domestic St. Scholastica transfer students who qualify will automatically be awarded these scholarships based on their application for admission to the College.

Transfer Benedictine Scholarship

Up to $28,000 for new transfer students with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

The College of St. Scholastica annually awards the Transfer Benedictine Scholarship to admitted, main campus transfer students who demonstrate a high level of academic achievement and potential. This excludes students enrolled in our undergraduate online and extended campus programs.

Q: What criteria are taken into consideration for the Transfer Benedictine Scholarship?
A: The scholarship is based on your cumulative GPA from all educational institutions attended after high school.

Q: Is my Transfer Benedictine Scholarship level determined at the time I apply or can it change if my GPA increases?
A: Your Transfer Benedictine level is determined based on your final transfer GPA.

Q: Is the Transfer Benedictine Scholarship automatically included in my financial aid package or do I need to apply for this scholarship?
A: The Transfer Benedictine is automatically included in your financial aid award. You do not have to fill out a separate application.

Q: What do I have to do to keep this scholarship?
A: You must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) to keep your Transfer Benedictine Scholarship. SAP is defined as a 67% completion rate and a 2.0 GPA, or better.

Q: Is the Transfer Benedictine Scholarship a renewable scholarship or do I need to reapply for it?
A: The Transfer Benedictine Scholarship is renewable for as long as you are enrolled full-time, pursuing your first bachelor’s degree and are a main campus undergraduate student (not attending online or at an extended campus location) you do not need to reapply — the scholarship renews automatically if minimum requirements are met.

Q: Will the Transfer Benedictine Scholarship affect any other scholarships that I may receive?
A: The Transfer Benedictine Scholarship is considered a merit-based scholarship. Any additional merit-based scholarships or need-based aid will be stacked on top of it.

International transfer students — your scholarship program works differently. You are eligible for the Global Benedictine Scholarship, rather than a Transfer Benedictine Scholarship. Please contact Ollie Meyer for more details.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

A $1,000 stackable scholarship for new transfer students with current membership in the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.

The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society promotes values concurrent and consistent with those held by the College. Scholarship, scholastic integrity and perseverance are hallmarks of the St. Scholastica tradition, and we welcome PTK members as students who have demonstrated their respect for scholarship. Our commitment to the members of PTK has been to create a $1,000 renewable scholarship to be awarded automatically to all PTK members in good standing.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship Eligibility

This academic scholarship is for all new transfer students with current membership in the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and completion of at least 12 semester credit hours. Past membership in Phi Theta Kappa may be applied to eligibility if all subsequent course work results in a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher (excludes students enrolled in special programs with reduced tuition rates).

Applicants must be seeking their first undergraduate degree and must be a U. S. citizen.

Awarding

The scholarship will be awarded at the time of acceptance, and notice will be given on applicant’s acceptance letter. To renew this scholarship, a GPA of 2.5 at full-time status must be maintained at The College of St. Scholastica. Awardees are ineligible to receive the Alpha Beta Gamma Scholarship.

Verifying Membership

A letter of verification stipulating your membership with Phi Theta Kappa is required. A statement from your current or previous chapter’s advisor/president, on chapter letterhead, stating that you were a member in good standing is all that is required. Include dates of membership. CSS Legacy Scholarship

Amount: $1,000 per year (renewable)

This scholarship is in addition to the student’s Benedictine Scholarship. The College retains the right to change this policy and rate at any time.

Scholarship criteria:

  • Student must have a sibling, step-sibling, parent, step-parent, grandparent, or step-grandparent who graduated from The College of St. Scholastica
  • Student will be a domestic, full-time student in the traditional day program on the Duluth campus

Saints Match

Amount: $27,000 per year (renewable)

St. Scholastica will provide a scholarship to new first-year and new transfer students to match the average cost of attendance for students accepted for admission at the University of Minnesota.

Scholarship criteria
Students must provide an acceptance letter to one of the following University of Minnesota campuses:

  • Duluth
  • Crookston
  • Twin Cities
  • Morris
  • Rochester

Transfer scholarships with separate applications

Students must be accepted to the College to apply for scholarships, but are welcome to preview what each scholarship entails prior to acceptance.

Social Justice and Inclusion Scholarships

CSS Multicultural, Inclusion and Diversity Scholarship

Amount: Up to $3,000 per year (renewable)

The St. Scholastica Multicultural, Inclusion and Diversity Scholarship is designated to provide additional opportunities for students with an interest in advancing racial and social justice issues and demonstrate exceptional financial need. Preference will be afforded to students who have been traditionally underrepresented in American higher education, with an emphasis on students of color.

Applications are reviewed on an individual basis and award amounts are based on financial need.

Scholarship criteria:
  • Applicant must be an entering first-year or new transfer student
  • Applicant must be accepted to be awarded the scholarship. Please contact Admissions with questions about your acceptance/ID
  • Applicant must demonstrate an interest in pluralism, inclusion, and the advancement of racial and social justice
  • Recipient will attend Multicultural Leadership Training held the week before fall semester, in conjunction with move-in weekend. If this is not a viable option, student will need to work with the Office of Institutional Diversity to coordinate other training.
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Applicant should submit the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA)

Ge-naadamaagoyan Native American Scholarship

Amount: Up to $10,000 per year (renewable)

The Ge-naadamaagoyan (that which helps you) Scholarship program is designated to provide significant scholarship opportunities to American Indian/Alaska Native students who demonstrate participation and commitment to advancing and/or preserving tribal communities’ traditions, which may include culture, language or history, and/or addressing contemporary social, economic or legal issues impacting tribal communities.

Applications are reviewed on an individual basis and award amounts are based on financial need.

Scholarship criteria:
  • Applicant must be an entering first-year or new transfer student
  • Applicant must be accepted to be awarded the scholarship. Please contact Admissions with questions about your acceptance/ID
  • Applicant must demonstrate participation and commitment to advancing and/or preserving tribal communities’ traditions, which may include culture, language or history, and/or addressing contemporary social, economic or legal issues impacting tribal communities
  • Recipient will attend Multicultural Leadership Training held the week before fall semester, in conjunction with move-in weekend. If this is not a viable option, student will need to work with the Office of Institutional Diversity to coordinate other training.

Sister Timothy Kirby Social Justice Scholarship

Amount: Up to $10,000 per year (renewable)

The Sister Timothy Kirby Social Justice Scholarship program is designated to provide significant scholarship opportunities to students who demonstrate a substantial commitment to pluralism and the advancement of racial and social justice.

Applications are reviewed on an individual basis and award amounts are based on financial need. Preference will be afforded to students who have been traditionally underrepresented in American higher education, with an emphasis on students of color.

Scholarship criteria:
  • Applicant must be an entering first-year or new transfer student in the traditional undergraduate program
  • Applicant must be accepted to be awarded the scholarship. Please contact Admissions with questions about your acceptance/ID

Catholic Student Referral Scholarship

The Catholic Referral Scholarship is a $300 annual scholarship, totaling $1,200 for students who have a referral form filled out by a priest, sister or other vowed religious. However, lay persons with leadership positions within the Catholic Church also may make referrals. Student must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.

Deadline: Before the start of classes in the student’s first semester at St. Scholastica.

CSS Military Guard and Reserve Scholarship

Amount: $250 for new incoming students enrolling for the first time in a Duluth main campus program. Summer not included.

Deadlines

  • Fall semester: September 1
  • Spring semester: January 15

Eligibility is based on a commitment to service while attending school, other benefits the student is receiving, and financial need according to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students must reapply each year and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and 67% course completion percentage. This program supports new incoming students enrolling for the first time in a Duluth main campus program. Students must apply their first semester attending CSS, and can re-apply each academic year thereafter.

Multiple Family Member Award

Amount: $1,000 per year (renewable) for traditional undergraduate students and 5% per year (renewable) for graduate/extended online students.

St. Scholastica offers an award to students where two or more family members from the same immediate family are attending. This includes siblings or step-siblings, parent/child or stepparent/stepchild, or spouses.

  • Students must be registered full-time at The College of St. Scholastica during the same enrollment period (currently defined as a semester)
  • One of the family members must complete the Multiple Family Member Award form
  • This discount is available any semester as long as both family members are simultaneously attending
  • The College retains the right to change this policy and rate at any time
  • St. Scholastica employees and their dependents are not eligible for this award
  • International students are not eligible for this award
  • This award cannot be applied retroactively
  • The Multiple Family Member Award will be adjusted to ensure that all scholarships, grants, remissions, or discounts (from any source) do not exceed the student’s cost of tuition

St. Scholastica Alumni and Sr. Celeste Shoup Scholarship

Amount: Varies (nonrenewable, but may re-apply each year)

Deadline: March 15

Scholarship Criteria

  • Son/daughter or niece/nephew of an Alumna/Alumnus
  • Applicants must demonstrate potential for academic success including satisfactory GPA and/or class rank
  • Enrolled as a traditional full-time student (12 or more credits per term)
  • Students must apply each year (scholarship will not automatically be renewed)
  • Applicant should submit the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) to be awarded scholarship
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen

For all of the scholarships above, student must be an incoming transfer student enrolled full-time in the traditional day program on the Duluth campus. The total amount of scholarships/grants (including Benedictine Scholarship, other CSS gift aid, state grant, and federal grant funding) cannot exceed the cost of tuition. Student must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as defined by the College (minimum GPA of 2.0 and 67% completion ratio).

Grants

Federal Pell Grant

The Pell Grant is a federal grant awarded to undergraduate students who demonstrate high or extreme financial need based on the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Learn more about the Federal Pell Grant.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

SEOG is a federal grant awarded to undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need based on the results of the FAFSA. Students also must be Pell Grant eligible to receive this award. Learn more about FSEOG.

Minnesota Postsecondary Child Care Grant

This grant is awarded to undergraduate students who incur daycare expenses while they are attending college. Grant funding varies according to income and family size. The maximum award amount is $2,300 for each eligible child per academic year. A student must be eligible for the Minnesota State Grant to be considered. Recipients must not be receiving assistance from the Minnesota Family Investment Program. Learn more about the Minnesota Postsecondary Child Care Grant.

Minnesota State Grant

Students are eligible for the Minnesota State Grant if they meet the Minnesota residency requirement(s) and have attended less than the equivalent of four full-time academic years of post-secondary education as defined by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education. The grant amount is based on the results of the FAFSA and current state legislation. Learn more about the Minnesota State Grant.
