The Comprehensive Review Visit took place on the Duluth campus of the College of St. Scholastica October 15-17, 2012.  A five person team met with the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, with all the Vice Presidents, with faculty and staff committees and groups, with representatives from Student Senate and a number of student groups, and with Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery.  Three Open Meetings were held for students, faculty, and staff.  In addition, the team reviewed documents in the Electronic Resource Room and in confidential files kept on campus.

Summary of Reviewers Report

The reviewers recommend that there be no change in the College's status as a regionally accredited institution.

The reviewers cite considerable evidence that the College substantially meets each of the five Criteria for accreditation.

The reviewers recommend that the College be required to continue and emphasize its improvement activities in five areas:

  • Cultural-competence and cultural diversity.
  • The Catholic identity of the College.
  • Effective communication within the institution.
  • Assessment of student learning outcomes for General Education.
  • Provision of an adequate location to protect and maintain the College archives.

The reviewers recommend that the Higher Learning Commission follow-up with monitoring and progress reports in two areas:

  • Adjunct faculty credentials.
  • Effective assessment of student learning.

The reviewers recommend that the next comprehensive visit take place in 2022-2023.
