SATS Adopt-a-Highway Clean Up

The Saints Athletic Training Society group recently participated in the college's Community Day activities.  They spent the morning cleaning the Adopt-a-Highway stretch along US 2 near Floodwood (mile marker 228-230).

Students Assist with Swanny Run

On Wednesday October 28th a group of students assisted at the annual CSS "Swanny" Run featuring 5k and 2k races.  The students assisting included Aaron Benson, Erin Betts, David Bloomquist, Suzie Flynn, Trista Metz, Katie Sjostrom, Dan Sonday, and Mel Waytashek.


Students Assist with Down's Syndrome Walk

Suzie Flynn, Liza Domingo, Amanda Shelton, Katie Sjostrom, Devin Soul, and Jill Steinbach assisted with the Annual Down's Syndrome Walk held on Saturday September 24th.


3rd Annual Workshop

Our 3rd Annual Student Workshop will be held on Saturday November 19th.  Both college and high school students are welcome.  Tentative break out topics include dynamic flexibility, taping and wrapping procedures, spineboarding, and balance and vibration therapy.  Registration information will be available in late August/early September.  Information sessions will be held on Saturday October 1st and Saturday February 11th.  You will have an opportunity to stay for an athletic event on both days.


Students Assist at Northshore Inline Marathon

On Saturday, September 17 a group of MS in AT students assisted at the Northshore Inline Skating Marathon.  Duties included wound care and assisting with triaging and overall care of patients.

BOC Exam Results In

The inaugural class of 2011 scored a perfect 4 for 4 on the June 2011 administration of the BOC, Inc. (Board of Certfiication) exam.  Congratulations to Callie Bartel, Eric Bausano, Kaitlen Hosch, and Beth Jackan.

3rd Cohort Begins Classes

The class of 2013 began classes on June 6, 2011.  There are 11 students in the cohort.


Athletic Training Students at SSHIP Health Fair

On Wednesday April 6th the campus organization SSHIP (St. Scholastica Health Interprofessional Program) sponsored a health fair. The organization exists to, among other things, promote interactions between students from various health professions programs. The health fair was geared toward students at the college. Students could come by and learn various things from a variety of programs as well as get tested. The second year athletic training students coordinated a booth where students could come by for a balance assessment. They received a print out of their assessment, information on activities to enhance balance, and information on the differences between athletic trainers and personal trainers.

GLATA Meeting

All faculty and students attended the GLATA meeting March 10-12 in Minneapolis, MN. The meeting provided a great opportunity to listen to some interesting speakers, network, and socialize.

CAATE Accreditation Awarded

The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) awarded the program accreditation on Thursday March 10, 2011. The program is now one of 24 nationally providing an Entry-level Masters.


Community Day

Several students and one faculty member participated in the College's Community Day on February 23rd. The activity was a "Meals on Wheels" that consisted of lunches being delivered to individuals in need around the Twin Ports area.


CAATE Accreditation On-Site Visit

The on-site visit took place on January 23-25. In their oral report given at the exit meeting, the site visit team reported that there were no non-compliances, 10 strengths, 3 weaknesses, and 5 recommendations.


Community Day

The College's Community Day was held on Wednesday October 6th 2010. A Community Day is held each semester and students are excused from classes to perform community service projects throughout the Twin Ports. Athletic Training students spent their time at Chester Bowl Park clearing brush and other duties.

Students Assist at Northshore Inline Marathon

A group of CSS students assisted Essentia Physicians and Athletic Trainers with medical coverage at the Northshore Inline Marathon held on Saturday September 11th.

Workshop Date Confirmed

The second annual CSS Athletic Training Workshop is Saturday November 20, 2010 from 9 am - 3 pm in Burns Wellness Center. The workshop is open to high school and college students and free with an enrollment limit of 50. It will include information on our campus and program, the athletic training profession, a panel discussion consisting of professionals and students, and hands on sessions on taping and wrapping, exercises for throwing athletes, dynamic flexibility, and preventing shin splints. Workshop registration includes an informational packet, t-shirt, lunch, and all programming. Door prizes will be given away as well.

New Student Cohort Starts

The program's second ever class began their coursework on June 14th. The group consists of four CSS alumni including Erin Betts (St. Paul, MN), Suzi Flynn (Hill City, MN), Trista Metz (White Bear Lake, MN) and Daniel Sonday (Two Harbors, MN). Other students in the class matriculated from Concordia University-St. Paul (Sarah Perryman, Jordan, MN), Northland College (Melissa Waytashek, Little Falls, MN), Saint Johns University (Jason Slivnik, Rice, MN), University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (Jill Steinbach, Corcoran, MN), UW-Green Bay (Charla Buxbaum, Hermantown, MN), UW-Whitewater (Jarrod Dominiak, Greenfield, WI).


Athletic Training Department Helps During Community Day 

Students and faculty participated in the college's community day on February 24. Their project for the day involved serving on a painting crew at Little Treasures Daycare in Downtown Duluth. Those participating included Callie Bartel, Eric Bausano, Kaitlen Hosch, Beth Jackan, and Department Chair, Hal Strough.

MS in 5 (3 + 2) Option

The College of St. Scholastica now offers an opportunity for students to attain their MS in Athletic Training in 5 years. This option is intended for high achieving and motivated students. Students apply during the fall of their junior year and, if admitted, begin the MS program the summer following their junior year taking first year coursework through their fourth year. They would graduate with their BA in Health Sciences, Athletic Training option after the fourth year and the MS after 5 years following the completion of second year requirements. Current CSS sophomores and freshmen, prospective freshmen, and transfer students are all eligible for this option. Athletic Training Student Workshop

Our athletic training student workshop was held on November 14th, 2009 in Burns Wellness Center. Thirty students attended and learned about the athletic training profession, taping, spineboarding, dynamic flexibility and ACL injury prevention.
