Men's Baseball - vs. Northland College
Saints sweep Northland in home opener

Back to back complete games from their pitchers, and offensive production led by sophomore Steve Kraushaar enabled the Saints to take their home opening series against Northland College by scores of 6-2 and 8-1 today at Wade Stadium.

Kraushaar, fresh off of the announcement of his UMAC Player of the Week award for an outstanding performance last week, finished today 4-for-6 with two RBI, three runs scored and a game two home run. Over his last eight games Kraushaar is batting .529 (18-for-34) including seven doubles, two triples and today’s fence-clearing shot.

The Saints were in good hands on the mound in today’s twinbill with junior Mark Moriarty and Adian Kummet each picking up their fifth win of the season in complete game victories for the Saints.

Moriarty (5-1) allowed only four hits and two runs in game one while striking out 10. Kummet (5-0) gave up only one run on five hits and fanned four ’Jacks in the nightcap.

Along with Kraushaar, junior Keith Ritsche (4-for-8, 2 RBI), sophomore Adam Scherff (3-for-6, 2 RBI), and senior Luke Olin (3-for-7, 2 RBI, 3 runs) chipped in at the plate to help the Saints sweep the season series against Northland.

Last Tuesday the Saints beat Northland 11-5 in Ashland, Wisconsin.

The No. 5-ranked Saints (25-3) sit atop the UMAC standings with a 12-0 record and host conference foe Northwestern College in a three-game series to be played on Friday and Saturday at Wade. Friday’s single game is set for a 3 p.m. start followed by Saturday’s doubleheader which will begin at noon.
