Bureau of Economic Analysis
Part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, the BEA publishes the " most closely watched economic statistics that influence the decisions made by government officials, business people, households, and individuals. BEA's economic statistics, which provide a comprehensive, up-to-date picture of the U.S. economy, are key ingredients in critical decisions affecting monetary policy, tax and budget projections, and business investment plans. The cornerstone of BEA's statistics is the national income and product accounts (NIPAs), which feature the estimates of gross domestic product (GDP) and related measures."

Bureau of Labor Statistics

Government agency which produces such works as Economic Indicators, Consumer Price Index, and the Monthly Labor Review.

Chartbook of International Labor Comparisons

"This chartbook focuses on the labor market situation in countries in the 1990s and the most current year for which international comparable data are available. Each chart includes the United States (U.S.) and selected Asian-Pacific (hereinafter referred to as Asian) and European countries for which suitable data are available. The appendix describes the sources, methods, and definitions used to compile the data in the chartbook. For some series, the appendix provides cautions about exact comparability of the measures."

Consumer Expenditure Survey

This program consists of two surveys—the quarterly Interview survey and the Diary survey—that provide information on the buying habits of American consumers, including data on their expenditures, income, and consumer unit (families and single consumers) characteristics.

National Agricultural Statistics Service

National Household Travel Survey
"The National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) is a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) effort sponsored by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to collect data on both long-distance and local travel by the American public. The joint survey gathers trip-related data such as mode of transportation, duration, distance and purpose of trip. It also gathers demographic, geographic, and economic data for analysis purposes. Policy makers, state DOTs, metropolitan planning organizations, industry professionals, and academic researchers use the data to gauge the extent and patterns of travel, to plan new investments, and to better understand the implications for the nation’s transportation infrastructure. BTS legislation specifically targets data on the volumes and patterns of passenger transportation."

Assessing the New Federalism State Database

"Assessing the New Federalism is a multi-year Urban Institute research project to analyze the devolution of responsibility for social programs from the federal government to the states, focusing primarily on health care, income security, job training, and social services. Researchers monitor program changes and fiscal developments. In collaboration with Child Trends, the project is studying the well-being of children and families. Health, United States, 2003

Health, United States is an annual report on trends in health statistics.  The report consists of two main sections: A chartbook containing text and figures that illustrates major trends in the health of Americans; and a trend tables section that contains 153 detailed data tables. The two main components are supplemented by an executive summary, a highlights section, an extensive appendix and reference section, and an index.

WHOSIS [World Health Organization Statistical Information Service]

The WHO makes information on world health available "directly or indirectly," meaning that for some health topics the full-text of the information is available and for others an e-mail contact is listed at the WHO to which queries may be directed. Some information, such as the Weekly Epidemiological Record, is in PDF format. One must download the file and view it off-line in Adobe Acrobat. Yearbook of Immigration Statistics
"The Yearbook of Immigration Statistics is a compendium of tables that provides data on foreign nationals who, during a fiscal year, were granted lawful permanent residence (i.e., admitted as immigrants or became legal permanent residents), were admitted into the United States on a temporary basis (e.g., tourists, students, or workers), applied for asylum or refugee status, or were naturalized. The Yearbook also presents data on immigration law enforcement actions, including alien apprehensions, removals, and prosecutions."
