Orientation Information

New students should arrive on campus; Saturday, August 23, Sunday, August 24 or Monday, August 25, 2008. Orientation will begin Tuesday, August 26 and will be for four days. View the Draft Freshman Schedule

Transfer and Canadian students should arrive on campus; Monday, August 25 or Tuesday, August 26, 2008. Orientation will begin for you Wednesday, August 27 and will be for three days. View the Draft Transfer/Canadian Schedule


International Student Orientation is required for all students. Students that do not attend all or part of Orientation will be charged $100 to their student bill.

The purpose of Orientation is to adequately prepare students for the American Culture, College life and life on the campus of St. Scholastica. The days of Orientation will be divided into sections with workshops and information sessions. There will be fun activities planned, in order to allow students to get to see Duluth and explore what will be home for a while.

Workshops include information on the following; on and off campus employment, registering for classes (if not already done), opening and using a bank account, American Culture, immigration regulations and health services and health insurance.

Other events will include; trip to the mall (shopping center) for essential supplies, a trip to the bank to open a bank account and other surprises!


Traveling to Duluth

There are a few different ways to get to Duluth for Orientation:

  1. Air - arrive at Duluth International Airport. This airport is only 5-10 minutes away from the College Campus. A member of staff or a student working for the Orientation program will meet you at this airport. The airline that serves this airport Northwest Airlines. Flight connections to Duluth can be met at Detroit Metropolitan Airport or Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport.

  2. Bus - There are two bus services to Duluth, one directly to campus - Jefferson Lines or the Greyhound which arrives in Duluth. You can be met at either of these bus services.

  3. Car - Rent a car to drive to Duluth this is an option many students use when their family is coming with them. There are several rental car companies at the Minneapolis Airport. Please arrive at the Somers Residence Hall (by Parking lot 7), Campus Operator's desk on campus to receive initial arrival information and room keys, staff will be available 24 hours to greet you.   4. Shuttle from Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport to Duluth

Arriving at your Port of Entry (POE)
This is the first airport that you land at in the United States. This is where you will have your first experience with the Customs officials and your immigration paperwork will be checked and verified for the first time in the U.S. It is important to be prepared for this first stop in the U.S. - please read the Port of Entry arrival information.
