Tournament host tops Saints

In the second contest of the season between St. Scholastica and the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves, the Wolves topped the Saints 88-72 in the final game of the Snyder Classic tournament.

The Saints fell behind in the first half as NWU hit 4 of 5 three pointers and took a 14 point lead at the half. With 8 minutes remaining in the second half however, the Saints tied the score at 55 but were unable to finish.

Junior Derek Johnson led the Saints' scoring with 17 points and 4 steals. William Maupins and Brady Zubke each had 8 rebounds for the Saints, with 13 of those defensive. Maupins added 10 points and 4 assists as well.

Despite the loss, Johnson was named to the All-Classic Team as he combined in the Saints' two tournament games for 38 points, 2 assists and 5 steals. NWU senior Joseph Easley, who led the Prairie Wolves with 19 points and tied a Snyder Classic record with 28 rebounds in the tournament, was named the tournament MVP.

With their win over the Saints, NWU finished the tournament tied at 2-0 with Wartburg, who defeated UC-Santa Cruz 73-44 in the earlier game on Saturday.

Tuesday night the Saints take on their hometown rivals with a 7:30 game at UM-Duluth.
