Women's Soccer - vs. NAIA Region III Indep.-Jamestown College
Saints loss to Jamestown puts Jimmies in Region tournament - against Saints Today's Region-III Independent Championship was do or die for the Jamestown Jimmies who needed a win to cotinue their season into the St. Scholastica-hosted Region Final Four. Their 2-1 victory over the Saints earned them a berth in the Region Final Four where they will face #1 seed St. Scholastica.
St. Scholastica scored first as Shannon Kresky took a long pass down the left side from Robin Johnson and quickly danced past the last defender, then beat the Jimmies keeper to give the Saints the lead less than eight minutes into the contest.
But in the 35th minute, Jamestown would tie it up on a goal by Colleen Lubke. The match would go into the half tied 1-1.
The Saints came out strong to open the second period with a number of scoring chances early but the Jimmies keeper kept the Saints off the scoreboard as she registered 5 saves.
Late in the match with under 2:30 to play Jamestown was able to get only their second shot of the half off from a scramble in front of the Saints net, and this one went top shelf to give the Jimmies the lead, 2-1.
St. Scholastica tried desparately to get the ball downfield for the tying score and though they accomplished possession deep in Jamestown territory, they weren't able to get a shot off, putting the Jimmies into the Region Final Four.
