Women's Soccer - vs. WI-Eau Claire
Saints defeat WIAC champion UW-Eau Claire 2-0 at home on Senior Day
Robin Johnson’s tenth goal of the season staked the Saints to a 1-0 lead that goalkeeper Kristin Lammi would preserve with a save on a penalty kick late in the game. In the 31st minute, Johnson took a feed from Nicole Seguin and pasted a shot in the upper right corner to put the regular season UMAC champion Saints in front of the WIAC regular season champion Blugolds. Lammi kept the Saints on top with four saves in the opening period and eight more in the second, none bigger than her save on a penalty kick from Eau Claire’s leading scorer Marcia Foltz in the 77th minute of the game. Nearing the final ticks on the clock, the Blugolds were pressed all the way up on offense when senior Jen Seip stole the ball just past midfield and chipped a shot over the Eau Claire keeper from 35 yards out which provided the Saints with their final two goal margin. The Saints are now 10-4-3 overall (6-0-0 UMAC) while Eau Claire drops to 12-2-4 (6-0-2 WIAC). Seip’s goal upped her career point total to 151 points. Already the women’s career point leader, she is now only six points shy of St. Scholastica men’s points leader Neil Runbeck (1991) who tallied 157 points over his career. At halftime, the Saints’ seven seniors were honored on the field, accompanied by parents and family. Playing in their final regular season home contest for St. Scholastica were Sarah Certano (Duluth/East), Kaylee Hunter (Duluth/East), Lammi (Duluth/Denfield), Katie Lofald (Hermantown, MN/Hermantown), Keely Raab (Duluth/East), Seip (Duluth/Central), and Pam Thomsen (Duluth/East).
