Saints women gain conference victory at Crown

After trailing by five points at half time, the Saints women's basketball team defeated Crown College tonight on the road in a come from behind 75-56 win.

The Saints came out on fire, scoring the first seven points of the game, but Crown shot back and took the lead with an 8-0 run of their own. CSS regained the lead and held on for the middle portion of the first half.

With five minutes to go in the half though, Crown extended a 29-28 lead to 37-28 with another 8-0 run. A lay-up by Klocke and a lay-up and free throw by Whitney Latham cut the lead to five at the half.

After more back and forth scoring action, the Saints took the lead with 9 minutes remaining and never looked back.

Sparked by a lay-up by Heather Saralampi, CSS went on a 10-0 run. Crown came within seven with 5:44 to go, but they didn't have enough left to overcome the Saints.

Another 10-0 run with 3:22 remaining sent Scholastica on to victory as Crown failed to score for the remainder of the game. The 75-56 win was the Saints' eleventh of the season, improving their record to 11-12 and approaching the .500 mark.

The Saints picked up their 0.0 percent three-point shooting from the first half and made it 57.1 percent of their shots in the second half. They also increased their field goal shooting from 45.2 percent to 51.7 percent while Crown's dropped from 43.8 to 25.0 percent. between the two halves.

The win was a team effort for the Saints as eight different players scored. Sarah Klocke led the Saints with 20 points while Jen Kne had 16 points and 8 rebounds. Erin Niles also added 10 points.

Crown was led by Jill Stumbo, who had 30 points, and Stephanie Schmitz with 15 points and 9 rebounds.
