St. Scholastica topples UMAC leader at home

With troubles winning on the road, the Saints welcomed their home match-up with Presentation College -- the UMAC's top team at 8-1 -- on Friday night in Duluth on their own court, the Reif Center.

St. Scholastica took advantage of the home court and toppled Presentation 60-51 to improve their home record to 7-3 this season.

Three Saints scored in double-figures, led by Jen Kne's game high 22 points. Jess Stenberg added a career high 14, and Sarah Klocke finished with 12 points.

St. Scholastica out rebounded the other 'Saints' team by a wide margin, 46-31. Kne was the game leader with 9 for the home team Saints.

In the first half of action, neither team distanced themselves from the other as the score finished tied at 27-27 entering the intermission.

Through 12 minutes of action in the second half, no lead for either team was greater than 2 points. After the sixth tie score of the game, 38-38 with 7:12 to play, Klocke converted one of two from the free throw line to put St. Scholastica in front by 1.

Kne's defensive rebound on the next possession led to a missed jumper by Whitney Latham but Stenberg was there for the put back to up the lead to 3.

From that point onward, the Saints lengthened their lead to as many as 9 with 53 seconds to go. With Presentation forced to foul, the Saints hit 7 of 8 from the foul line down the stretch to clinch the game and end a three-game losing streak.

The win evens St. Scholastica's UMAC mark at 5-5 and drops Presentation to 8-2.
