Women's Basketball - vs. WI-Superior
Saints hang on for victory over Yellowjackets
In a contest much closer than the 15-point win by the Saints in mid-December, the visiting Saints swept the season series with a 72-67 victory on the Yellowjackets' home court.
Jen Kne led the Saints with a game-high 28 points while teammate Heather Saralampi was the game's leading rebounder snaring 10, including 9 defensive boards.
UWS' balanced attack -- four players scored in double-figures -- couldn't match the output of Kne and Sarah Klocke who finished with 17 points. In fact, the trio of Kne, Klocke and Whitney Latham (11 points) nearly outscored UWS themselves.
The Saints held a slim 32-29 lead entering the intermission, mostly behind 8 of 12 shooting from the free throw line. UWS outscored the Saints from the field but went to the line only once in the entire half.
Both teams upped the scoring in the second half as the Saints poured in 40 while UWS added 38.
Two of the differences in the game were certainly the opening half's free throw shooting as well as rebounding throughout the game. St. Scholastica grabbed 36 rebounds to only 31 for the Yellowjackets, a difference-maker in a close game.
The series sweep is the second in a row for the Saints and their fifth win in a row over the Yellowjackets. St. Scholastica also swept the series in the 2002-03 season.
