Saints battle to victory at Crown

In a match much tighter than one might have expected, the Saints (8-2 in the UMAC) had to claw their way back to the match victory after falling in the first set, 26-30. Crown College (3-8 UMAC) nearly pushed the Saints to the limit in game two, a 30-27 Saints win.
St. Scholastica finally quelled the upset bid by taking the next two games by identical 30-23 scores.
Three Saints were in double figures in kills led by LeAnn Bersheit's 17. Ashley Hanson added 15 and Shawna Varichak had 14 in the four game match. Berscheit led the match in blocks with 1 solo and 6 block assists, and Laura Lief was the Saints leader in set assists tallying 45.
With 13 team blocks, play at the net made a big difference in the contest. The Saints held Crown to a measly .137 successfull attack percentage, while hitting at a .318 clip themselves. Defensive digs also made a difference with three Saints in double figures. Natalie Ristow led with 22, Hanson had 19 for yet another double-double (double figures in kills-digs), and Diana Moody chipped in 12.
Kati Berscheit had 3 service aces for the Saints and Ristow had 2.
