Saints perform well at opening UMAC Crossover Tournament
In the first of two UMAC crossover weekends, the Saints finished 2-1 defeating Crown College and Martin Luther, while falling only to pre-season favorite Bethany Lutheran.
vs. Crown - three Saints hit double figures in kills in the 3-0 (30-22, 30-20, 30-25) win, led by Ashley Hanson's 16. LeAnn Berscheit had 11 kills and Shawna Varichak added 10. Laura Leif had 32 assists while Natalie Ristow added 16 digs to accompany her match-leading 6 service aces.
vs. Bethany - in their only loss of the weekend (3-1: 30-21, 28-30, 22-30, 23-30), the Saints challenged the perceived leader of the UMAC by taking the first game and pushing the second to the limit before finally falling in defeat. Hanson paced the Saints with a double-double by registering 16 kills and 10 digs in the four game match. Erin Niles had an outstanding match at the net tallying 12 kills and 3 solo blocks. Three Saints were in double figures in digs - Hanson, Ristow (25) and Diana Moody (17). Moody also had a match-leading 5 service aces.
vs. Martin Luther - in taking the four game match (30-25, 30-26, 22-30, 30-26), the Saints closed out their weekend with a victory. LeAnn Berscheit paced the Saints with 18 kills and 3 total blocks while Hanson added her second double-double for the weekend totalling 13 kills and 14 digs in the match. Moody once again led the Saints in service aces with 3 and chipped in 22 digs defensively. Ristow led all match participants in digs with 36 and Lief led all in assists with 52, a season high.
