Men's Basketball - vs. UW-Stout Tournament-UW-Stout
Saints fall in Tournament opener against #11 UW-Stout
A 27 point halftime deficit was too much to overcome in the opening game for the Saints at the Wendy's Holiday Tournament in Menomonie, Wis. The Saints outscored the host Blue Devils in the second half but it wasn't enough as UW-Stout took the victory by an 85-63 score.
Ice-cold shooting in the first half doomed the Saints. Shooting only 21% from the field, the visiting Saints made only 7 baskets in the half. In contrast, the host Blue Devils shot just below 50% and were 4 for 10 from the 3-point line while opening a 46-19 lead entering the intermission.
Andy Schmitz led the Saints with 15 points and 5 assists. Josh Gosar was the only other Saint in double-figures, scoring 10 points and grabbing 3 rebounds.
William Maupins' 7 rebounds tied for game-high totals with a pair of Blue Devils.
The loss sends the Saints into Thursday's third-place contest against Marian College, an 88-52 loser to #13 Augustana College in the Tournament opener.
