Men's Basketball - vs. UM-Crookston
Saints find first win of season with come from behind victory over UM-Crookston

Down 46-40 at the intermission, in a half the Saints never had a lead in, St. Scholastica fought their way back from 11 down in the second period for their first win of the season, an 85-81 nail-biter over UM-Crookston.

When Derek Johnson scored a fast break layup with 8:27 to go in the second, it marked the Saints' first lead of the game.

The lead see-sawed back and fourth for the next six minutes until Robert Jackson's lay up from in the paint, a troublesome area for the Saints recently, put the Saints in front for good. Derek Johnson followed next with a back door cut for an easy lay up to put the Saints up 3 with 1:10 left, and from there the Golden Eagles had to begin fouling with the Saints converting to maintain their lead.

Andrew Schmitz, Derek Johnson and William Maupins were all perfect from the line down the stretch, cementing the home win for St. Scholastica.

For the first game all season, the Saints outscored their opponent in close by a slim 30-28 margin from in the paint.

Derek Johnson had the hot hand for St. Scholastica scoring 22 points, 14 coming in the second half. Four other teammates were in double-figures as Maupins had 16, Jackson scored 12 of his 14 in the second half, Brady Zubke chipped in with 13, and Schmitz' clutch free throws at the end pushed his game total to 12 points.

Today's game was the best so far this season in shooting success as the Saints were at 50% from the field after the first half and caught fire in the second, shooting 62.5%. They also turned things around for Crookston as the Golden Eagles had the hot hand in the beginning at 68% in the first half, but the Saints' defense was able to douse the hot hand in the second, holding the visitors to just 39% from the field.
