Second half slide sends Saints to defeat

Both St. Scholastica and Nebraska Wesleyan shot over 40% from the field in a first half that ended knotted at 26, but the Saints slipped to only 30% in the second half while the Prairie Wolves improved, leading the visitors to a win over the home team by a 73-58 score.

The Saints had a lead of 1 at the 13:25 mark in the second period, and the score was even tied at 44 at 10:21. A few minutes later, though, the Saints were down 9 with just over 5 minutes to play.

Down the stretch, the Saints were trying 3-pointers to close the margin as well as fouling the Prairie Wolves but St. Scholastica wasn't connecting and the visitors couldn't miss shooting, 22-24 in the half from the foul line, stretching what was a tight game into the final, 15-point margin.

All-UMAC performer Derek Johnson led the Saints offensively as he scored 12 points on the night. Brady Zubke added 11 points and Andrew Schmitz was also in double-figures with 10.

Josh Gosar had 11 rebounds, 8 defensively, to lead the Saints on the boards and Schmitz was the game-leader in steals on the night with 4.
