Master of Arts in Information Technology Leadership Department of Computer Science / Computer Information SystemsPhilosophyThe skills needed by today's informational technology leaders span multiple disciplines not typically available through traditional business or computer science programs. The Master of Arts in IT Leadership program seeks to prepare working IT professionals with real world expertise in leading technology initiatives within their organizations, professions, and business sectors. The program is one of the few programs of its kind to be offered online. It has become increasingly important to have a working knowledge of technology and interpersonal leadership skills in order to recognize and capitalize on trends that impact businesses. To solve IT problems, it is essential to possess in-depth knowledge of software development, IT strategy, and leadership and interpersonal communication skills. Program DescriptionThe IT Leadership program prepares the student to implement advanced software systems and emphasizes the use of IT to solve business issues as companies struggle to apply new technology in the workplace. Students gain a solid foundation based on both theory and real world application in order to understand emerging technologies. Graduates will be skilled at identifying and analyzing informational technology and organizational problems; creating innovative solutions; and making correct, ethical decisions at critical times. FormatThe 37 semester-credit program is offered in an online format, which allows professionals to maintain their current employment status while enhancing their knowledge and skills. Students will take the core courses as a cohort; the elective courses will generally contain students from multiple cohorts. The IT Leadership program can be completed in as little as 18 months by taking three courses per semester. All coursework is completed online with exception of a single residency requirement where the student presents the final project on the Duluth campus.
