The College of St. Scholastica (CSS) established The Center for Healthcare Innovation in March 2005 in response to the widely documented crisis in healthcare in the United States. The healthcare industry is being adversely affected by labor shortages, increased need for capital, rapidly rising costs, constrained reimbursement and declining profit margins; all this while facing increased expectations for improved quality of care.
Clearly, changes are needed within the industry to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of care to patients/consumers throughout the country. Changes in how healthcare is delivered, the types of information available to providers, payers, and decision makers, and policy reform will all contribute to the transformation already occurring within the healthcare industry.
