What should be done for this standard?
A. Select the most appropriate investigative methods or information retrieval systems for accessing the needed information
- Investigate the scope, content, and organization of information retrieval systems (i.e. catalog, database)

B. Construct and implement effectively-designed search strategies
- Develop a research plan
- Identify keywords and synonyms and related terms for the search
- Use controlled vocabulary like subject headings specific to the discipline
- Construct a search strategy using appropriate commands like Boolean logic, truncation, and proximity searches
- Adapt search strategy to various systems like databases

C. Retrieve information online or in person using a variety of methods
- Use various search systems like databases, catalog, etc.
- Use various schemes to locate information like call numbers for books, indexes for articles, etc.
- Use online or in person services available like Interline Loan, reference desk, etc.
- Use surveys, letters, interviews to retrive primary information

D. Refine search strategy if necessary
- Assess the quantity, quality, and relevance of search results
- Identify gaps in information retrieved and determine if search strategy should be revised
- Repeat the search using revised strategy if necessary

E. Extract, record,a nd manage the information at its sources
- Select the most appropriate technology for extracting information (Email, download, print, photocopy, etc.)
- Create a system for organizaing information
- Understand the types of a citation
- Record citation information needed for future reference
