Graduate Studies
MA in Management
The Master of Arts in Management (MAM) program prepares managers and leaders who are able to deal with rapid change in their organizations and business sectors; it emphasizes the behavioral elements of running organizations. The program approaches management as a practice, much like medicine or law, which can be studied and mastered. Its graduates are skilled at identifying and analyzing organizational problems, developing innovative solutions, and making correct, ethical decisions at critical times. The program's primary areas of study include: organizational behavior, organization development (also called "planned change"), human resources management, interpersonal communication and cultural competency, and strategic management. It also includes traditional business topics such as marketing, finance, and economics.
The MAM welcomes students from private businesses, nonprofits, and the public sector. An undergraduate education in business is not required. Founded in 1986, the program has - to date - produced over six-hundred graduates who have taken roles as corporate leaders and managers in private corporations, nonprofits, heathcare, government, education, engineering, and small business entrepreneurship. The program has helped students ascend to leadership roles within their current business sectors or make successful transitions to new sectors and organizations.
The Master of Arts in Management degree is offered at campuses in Duluth, St. Paul, and St. Cloud. It is also offered periodically in cohorts located on the Iron Range of Northern Minnesota.
