St. Scholastica Family Trees are sprouting up and branching out to create deeply rooted Alumni Family Legacies.

Alumni have been registering their St. Scholastica Family Legacy (at least two family members attended the College) since the project began in November, 2000.

If you have a Family Legacy, please be sure to register - just e-mail us the details at alumni@css.edu. A special St. Scholastica Legacy Family Reunion was held in 2001, and a row of Family Legacy trees was planted.

Anderson/Frolik: Jennifer (Anderson) Frolik '96, Vivian (Heinle) Anderson '70 - mother, Kathleen Heinle '64 - aunt, Ann Rae (Lindeman) Smith '74 - great aunt. Jennifer says her Aunt Kathleen's story of "making it through" college is what really stirred her up. Kathleen was diagnosed with a severe heart problem as a young child and it was predicted she wouldn't live to the age of five. However, through a little luck, a lot of love, and the grace of God, Kathy lived to the age of twenty-one. Just prior to graduation, her condition worsened and she was hospitalized. She received her diploma in her bed at St. Mary's Hospital and she passed away on her graduation day. Jennifer says college is not just about the education you get or the grades you earn, but it's also about the relationships you make and the self-discovery you begin. CSS will always have a special place in her heart, and she hopes that her future children will also consider CSS as their college of choice.

After graduation, she and some classmates went to Vietnam with the Red Cross, putting on music shows for soldiers and war orphans. She died in 1997; her 1969 classmates planted a tree on campus in her honor.

With high school graduation in North Dakota, we faced a dilemma: accept scholarship offers in Montana, or investigate The College of St. Scholastica? When our father discovered that he could provide us with free railway passes, we took the 400 mile trip (one-way). We were pleased with our College but soon wearied of those 8 to 10 hour railroad rides, especially the single coach "Goose" from Brainerd to the Duluth station.
