American Association of Critical Care Nurses - Critical Care Research Grants
Research support is available for nurses with current AACN membership. Grants awards range from $1,000 to $100,000 and are co-sponsored by a number of different corporations. Also available are small awards of up to $250 to individuals for clinical research that will directly benefit patients and/or families.

American Association for University Women - Various Grants
The AAUW supports scholars pursuing a vast spectrum of academic research; public school teachers promoting girls' achievement in math, science, and technology; and community activists helping to improve the lives of women and girls through education. Funding also assists women at critical stages of their careers, as well as those preparing for professions underrepresented by women and women of color. In addition, special funding is available for a college/university scholar-in-residence to research issues of gender and equity.

American Heart Association - Northland Affiliate, Inc.
American Heart Association offers grants to health professionals in all stages of thier careers.

American Lung Association - Nationwide Research Program
Awards and grants ranging from $21,000 to $40,000 to develop academic scientists and further both basic and applied research.

American Nurses Foundation - Nursing Research Grants
Each year, ANF provides funds for beginning and advanced nurse researchers to conduct studies that contribute toward the advancement of our nursing science and the enhancement of patient care. Awards are given in all areas of nursing, including patient outcomes, health care policy development, critical care, gerontology, women's health, community and family intervention, as well as a variety of other topics.

Department of Health & Human Services - Agency for Health Care Policy & Research(AHCPR) - Research Grants Research projects examine the availability, quality, and costs of health care services; ways to improve the effectiveness and appropriateness of clinical practice, including the prevention of disease; and other areas of health services research, such as services for persons with HIV infection. Also supports small grants, conference grants, and training through dissertation grants and National Research Service Awards to institutions and individuals.

Minnesota Nurses Association Foundation - Various Grants & Scholarships
Small grants (up to $5,000) to MNA members with minimum of baccalaureate in nursing; a Katharine Densford Dreves grant award up to $10,000 for MNA members with minimum of Master's degree in nursing (or enrolled in a Master's program) for research in nursing topics; and Clinical Practice Projects for MNA or MSNA members.

National Institutes of Health - Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA)
Funding for small-scale health-related research projects conducted by faculty in educational institutions that have not been major participants in NIH programs. Award amounts vary.

National Science Foundation - Economics Research
NSF awards general grants in economics research in several areas: international economies, labor, history, finance, mathematics, macroeconomics, microeconomics, etc. Proposals are welcome from individuals or multi-investigator research groups for the use in conferences, workshops, symposia, experimental research, data collection, equipment, and research experience for undergraduates. Investigators may also apply for interdisciplinary projects that strengthen links between economics and other areas (social science, mathematics, etc.)

National Science Foundation - Social Psychology Research
Grants will support research on human social behavior, including human development and cultural behaviors, practices, and differences. Various topics are supported including: attitude formation and change, social cognition, personality process, interpersonal and group relations, social comparison and influence, and neurophysiological bases of social behavior.

Research Corporation - Various Science Research Awards
The principal investigator must have an appointment in a department of astronomy, chemistry or physics, which offers at least baccalaureate, but not doctoral degrees. Preference is given to tenured or tenure-track faculty. Awards average about $35,000 and range between $25,000 to $45,000 depending on the needs of the project and the program a researcher applies under. Expenses can include equipment and supplies, student summer stipends up to $3,500 for 10 weeks, faculty summer stipends up to $7,500 for 8 weeks, travel costs to use uncommon research facilities not available on campus, and services or requirements essential to the research.

Sigma Theta Tau - Nursing Research Grants
Ten to fifteen small grants of up to $5,000 each are given annually to nurses with Master's degrees. Various corporations and organizations co-sponsor grants of $3,000 - $10,000 for research in various nursing education and practice areas. Multi-disciplinary and international research is encouraged.

Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society - Grants-in-Aid Research
Research awards are made to support scientific investigation in any field and range from $600 to $5,000.

Whiteside Institute for Clinical Research Grant
The Whiteside Institute for Clinical Research is accepting grant applications for research addressing issues related to the prevention or treatment of cancer, lung disease or heart disease. This year up to $30,000 is available for qualified proposals to support costs deemed essential to the research project. Applications submitted in response to this announcement may be submitted for any amount but may not exceed $30,000 in direct costs. Indirect costs are not authorized under this announcement.

Humanities Grant Opportunities

American Historical Association - Schmitt Research Grants Program
Grants up to $1,000 for research in the history of Europe, Africa and Asia. Applicants must be members of the American Historical Association. Preference given to PhD candidates and junior scholars.

Arrowhead Regional Arts Council - McKnight/ARAC Individual Artist Career Development Grants
Development Grants are designed to provide financial support to developing and established regional artists wishing to take advantage of artist generated or impending, concrete opportunities that will advance their work or careers. Artists working in the visual, literary, or performing arts are eligible to apply. Applicants may request grants of up to $1,000.

Minnesota State Arts Board - Artist Initiative Grants
This is a new program. Its purpose is to support and assist artists at various stages in their careers. It encourages artistic development, nurtures artistic creativity, and recognizes the contributions individual artists make to the creative environment of the state of Minnesota. Grants will be awarded for career building and for the creative development of artists. Some artists may choose to request funds to create new work, but that isn't a requirement of the program. Grants range from $2,000 to $6,000.

Minnesota State Arts Board - Cultural Community Partnership Grants
This is a new program designed to enhance the careers of individual artists of color. Artists, at any stage in their career, can apply for a grant to help support a collaborative project. Applicants can collaborate with another Minnesota artist of color or a Minnesota nonprofit organization. Grants range from $1,000 to $5,000.

International Research and Exchange Board - Short-Term Travel Grants
Grants for scholarly projects focusing on Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, and Mongolia; visits of approximately two weeks.

International Research and Exchange Board - Individual Advanced Research Grants
For over 30 years IREX has supported the highest quality research in the social sciences and humanities. IREX research programs (fellowships and small grants) provide individuals and teams of researchers with the support and resources they need to achieve their personal and professional goals.

Lindbergh (Charles A. & Anne Morrow) Foundation - Lindbergh Grants
Grants up to $10,580 for research and education projects that further a balance between the advance of technology and preservation of the human and natural environment.

National Foundation for the Improvement of Education - Leadership Grants
The NEA Foundation provides $2,000-$5,000 grants to teachers, education support professionals, and higher education faculty and staff in public schools, colleges, and universities for the purpose of engaging in high-quality professional development or implementing innovative ideas that raise student achievement.

Spencer Foundation - Small Research Grants
The Foundation's Small Research Grants Program supports short-term research projects (two years or less) that require no more than $50,000 to complete. It offers a unique opportunity for scholars and practitioners in a broad range of institutions who are interested in educational research to obtain support for their work. The program is appropriate for modest-sized research projects, exploratory studies, specific phases of larger investigations, and projects that arise in response to unusual opportunities. The Small Research Grants Program encourages researchers with diverse perspectives to develop ideas and approaches that extend the conventional boundaries of a research question, area, or method. The program supports individual efforts as well as collaborations. There are no deadlines for this program.
