The College of St. Scholastica RN to BA Completion Program assists registered nurses to attain a baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing.

The requirements of the completion program include general education courses, a statistics course, major nursing courses, and electives. If you have an Associate of Arts degree or have met the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum, many of your general education requirements are satisfied. The Accelerated Degree Evening Program (ADEP) offers nursing and general education courses two nights per week.

Public Health Certification

Successful completion of the program qualifies you to apply for public health certification.

The Department of Nursing and The College of St. Scholastica are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and approved by the Minnesota State Board of Nursing.

NSG 4998 20 Credits Written Nursing Portfolio

The Nursing Portfolio is a document prepared by the RN/BA student to receive college credit for their professional experience as a registered nurse. The RN creates a narrative describing both generally and specifically how they meet each of the 20 objectives and then provide documentation to support their narration.

Additional Credits Required:

Statistics course (descriptive and inferential). (4 credits)

Upper Division Liberal Arts course with an intensive writing component (WI) and a religious studies course (RES) are required even if you have an AA degree. (8 credits)

Elective courses (to meet minimum total of 128 semester credits to graduate) - Includes non-nursing credits such as General Education Courses, Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), classes taken toward an AA or a BA in another field.

Course Descriptions:

NSG 3332 Health Assessment: Covers basic principles and techniques for systematic assessment of the client throughout the lifespan. Course includes analysis and interpretation of subjective and objective data in relation to the impact on the client system. Weekly laboratory time focuses on systematic assessment of the adult.

NSG 3361 Dimensions of Professional Nursing: Examination of professional nursing theory and practice focusing on the conceptual framework of the program. Other topics include role transition, historical perspectives, and the impact of social, economic and political factors.

NSG 3351 Research in Nursing: Emphasizes the role of the nurse as a critical consumer of research findings for the purpose of improving nursing practice. Students are provided with a comprehensive introduction to the researcher's role and the theories and principles of sound research. Students explore the relationships between nursing research and evidence-based practice.

NSG 4463 Public Health Nursing: Prepares the RN to BA student to apply public health principles to nursing practice from an individual, community and system perspective.

NSG 4472 Nursing Issues and Analysis: Analysis of historical and current issues affecting aspects of professional nursing practice, including ethical and legal ramifications. Student formulates a personal philosophy of nursing.
