NATURAL SCIENCES DEGREE/NATURAL RESOURCES MAJOR

The NS/NR program has been designed specifically for students who have completed the Natural Resource Associate in Applied Science Degree at Central Lakes College. The A.A.S. degree gives students a strong foundation in lower division courses and sets the stage for a transition to a Natural Sciences/Natural Resources major. The St. Scholastica Natural Sciences/Natural Resources curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive, well-rounded exposure to the field of Natural Resources with a concentration in management.


CURRICULUM

The curriculum addresses two distinct areas: 1) General Education, and 2) The Natural Science/Management Core. Following are the requirements in each of these areas.

GENERAL EDUCATION

The first component of the Natural Resources curriculum is the General Education requirements. These are designed to expose the students to a broad spectrum of liberal arts education. An Associate of Arts degree, which meets the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MTC) and includes a course in religious studies, will fulfill the general education requirements or students can take courses in the following areas:

  • Natural Science
  • Fine Arts
  • Religious Studies

NATURAL SCIENCE/MANAGEMENT CORE REQUIREMENTS

The second component of the curriculum is the Natural Science/Management Core. Listed below are 1) the courses taken through Central Lakes college and 2) the courses taken through The College of St. Scholastica. The CSS courses are taught by St. Scholastica faculty on the Central Lakes College campus as part of the ADEP program. A minimum 2.4 cumulative grade point average is required in the core courses for Management majors.

Students must earn a total of 128 credits, 42 of which must be upper division credits, i.e., 3000 and 4000 level. Also, at least 32 credits must be completed through St. Scholastica to meet the College's residency requirement.

IN SUMMARY

The above requirements may appear to be rather complex to the new or prospective student. Not to fear! St. Scholastica is committed to making your experience with the ADEP program as satisfying as possible. Consequently, St. Scholastica has a designated representative, Amie Anderson, who is responsible for assisting students in planning and managing their degree program. Amie has regularly scheduled hours in the College of St. Scholastica's office on the Central Lakes College campus.
