AGRICOLA
AGRICOLA (AGRICultural On Line Access), the most comprehensive database for all aspects of U.S. agriculture and allied disciplines, covers the life sciences as well. This site provides a web accessible version of the National Agricultural Library database describing books, journal articles and other materials in a range of formats. AGRICOLA is broken into two segments. The Online Public Access Catalog covers books, audiovisual materials and periodical holdings from the Library's very comprehensive agriculture collections. The Journal Article Citation Index is a database of citations to journal articles, books, chapters and similar materials. Each sections can be searched by browsing a list of terms, by keyword or field-limited searching, or by using a quasi, command-based advanced mode.
AGRIS/CARIS Information Centre This UN FAO-based site was developed in 1974 and treats all aspects of agriculture. There are about 200 national organizations that contribute to this site, and they add approximately 14,000 items per month. The biological reference list is approximately three million entries.
Eric Weisstein's Treasure Troves of Science The EncyclopedicTreasure Troves comprises several sections, including Astronomy, Biography, Chemistry, Mathematics, Music and Physics. The site is most useful as a jumping off point for those who are interested in the sciences but are not experts.
EurekAlert! EurekAlert! is an electronic index of research advances in science, medicine, health and technology as published in news briefs and in the science media, including peer-reviewed scientific journals. The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is responsible for the editorial content.
History of Science Sourcebook
The "hierarchy of hierarchies for the history of science." Organized chronologically into categories, the History of Science Sourcebook provides organized links to hundreds of other sites dealing with a wide range of topics. Collectively, all the sublinks at this site take you to thousands of sites on the Internet. A nice research resource for quick access via the Internet.

MadSci Network represents a collective cranium of scientists providing answers to your questions. For good measure it provides a variety of oddities and other ends as well.

PubMed
PubMed, also an Internet version of Medline, has a simplified search engine. Good for quick, 'down & dirty' searching. PubMed does offer two features Grateful Med does not. It offers citations for soon-to-be published articles which are not yet available on Grateful Med. PubMed also offers a 'See related articles' link which you can use after you have conducted your initial search. Advance search allows for browsing of articles by journal title. Full-text?: No full-text articles are available. Controlled language?: Uses MeSH. Limited online thesaurus.

A science and engineering metadirectory maintained by professional scientists whose mission is to identify and centralize access to the most valuable scientific resources online.
SciTechResources.gov This "catalog" of government science and technology web sites is a product of the National Technical Information Service (NTIS) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. It "Provides the scientist, engineer, and science aware citizen with easy access to key government web sites." This site is a work in progress; many important sources are yet to be added.
