March 2008

Microsoft Office 2007 will be installed campus-wide over the next few months.  When the classes resume Fall Semester 2008, all campus computers should have Office 07 installed.  To prepare for this upgrade, here are some resources to help with the transition:

2007 Interactive Training

These interactive tutorials use the Office 2003 interface to show you where to find menu items in Office 2007. You can either run these tutorials from this webpage or save them to your computer for easy future use. Note: you will be prompted by two security warnings.

Click on the Atomic Learning logo for training video clips in MS Office 2007. (Click on the "Tutorial" tab once the Atomic Learning web page is open.)  Any computer on the main campus can access Atomic Learning without a password. Off campus computers will need a password.    You will be required to enter your network id and password. (This is the same network id and password that you use to log into a computer on campus, or to get into GroupWise email.)

NetStorage and Office 2007

If you use NetStorage, there is a minor issue with the Internet Explorer browser and Office 2007 files. If you download an Office 2007 file by double-clicking on it, the file extension will be changed to a .zip file. There are several ways to work around this issue. When using IE, check the checkbox by the file you wish to download and then right click and choose download. The Firefox browser does not have this issue.

Office 2003/2007 Compatibility On Personal Computers

If you are running Office 2003, this update will allow you to access files saved in the Office 2007 file formats (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx). Note that this should already be installed on all campus computers. We are providing this link for home users.
