Women's Volleyball - vs. UM-Morris - UMAC Crossover
SAINTS OPEN UMAC SEASON WITH WIN OVER COUGARS

St. Scholastica (6-10, 1-0 UMAC) opened the conference portion of their 2007 schedule with a quick 3-0 win over Minnesota-Morris (3-13, 0-1 UMAC) on Friday afternoon in Ashland, Wis., at the UMAC Crossover.

The Saints jumped out front early with a 30-19 win then nearly doubled up the Cougars in game two with a 30-18 victory. Morris pushed the Saints a bit more in the third game before falling 30-24 giving St. Scholastica the win.

Both Shawna Varichak (16) and Amy Thompson (12) reached double figures in kills for the Saints while Kati Berscheit set the pair up with a match-leading 40 set assists.

Berscheit and defensive specialist Diana Moody played strong defensively for the Saints in their win registering 14 and 27 digs, respectively.

The Saints had 8.0 team blocks --  led by Dustie Richardson's three and a half blocks -- to only 3.0 by Morris.
