The Saints offense finally came alive in the second half of Tuesday’s match-up against the visiting LumberJills from Northland College, taking a 1-0 halftime lead and streaking to a 7-0 win at Duluth’s Public Schools Stadium.

St. Scholastica (7-2-1, 5-0-0 UMAC) pounded out 21 shots on the Northland (1-4-1, 1-2-1 UMAC) goal in the opening 45 minutes but had only Betsey Palmiscno’s goal in the 11th minute showing on the scoreboard.

Northland goalie Brittany Ballwanz stopped 11 of the 12 shots that made it on goal in the opening half, not including the Angie Groh rocket that clanged off the crossbar in only the 4th minute of the game.

St. Scholastica cranked it up early in half number two as Robin Johnson scored an unassisted goal just 3 minutes and 30 seconds into the half.

Shannon Kresky scored in the 62nd minute, with assists from Cortney McKenzie and Kristen Stangel, to make it 3-0 in favor of the Saints and prompted Northland to make a goalie switch.

Kerri Copello didn’t fare much better for the ’Jills as, first, Johnson scored her second of the game with a successful penalty kick in the 72nd minute, then Sarah Bartlette made it 5-0 less than two minutes later with an unassisted goal.

Groh finally got back her close miss from the opening minutes, looping a shot from 20 yards out that dropped just under the crossbar and above the gloves of a leaping Copello in the 85th minute.

Becky Bowerman closed out the scoring on the day with her second career goal and first of the year, an unassisted score in the 87th minute that put the Saints ahead by their final seven goal margin.

Kelly Momsen was in goal for the Saints and enjoyed an easy day making one save to earn the win and record her 18th career shutout, one shy of the current team record.
