Women's Volleyball - vs. Lakehead - Border Battle
SAINTS CLOSE OUT DAY ONE AT BORDER BATTLE WITH VICTORY

In their final match on Friday at the UWS/CSS Border Battle, the Saints took a 3-1 victory over Lakehead University from Canada in an exhibition match at Motorelli Gymnasium on the campus of UW-Superior.

A pair of wins in the first two games (30-24, 30-28) gave the Saints a 2-0 lead but Lakehead would mount a rally and cut the deficit in half with a 30-26 win in game three.

Game four was a close battle to the last point as the Saints finally closed out the match win with a 34-32 win.

Shawna Varichak led the Saints with 15 kills while Kati Berscheit had a match-high 43 set assists.

Defensive Specialist Diana Moody had a match-high 29 digs for St. Scholastica. At the net defensively, Erin Niles finished the match with 3.5 blocks and Dustie Richardson had 2.0 as the Saints tallied 8.0 total team blocks compared with only 5.0 for Lakehead.

The Border Battle comes across the bridge to the Reif Center on the CSS campus on Saturday. Lakehead and the Saints will be joined by Northland College, St. Catherine's, UW-Stout, UW-Superior, and Viterbo University with a pair of opening matches beginning at 9 a.m.
