Women's Volleyball - vs. St. Kate's @ Border Battle
SAINTS OPEN BORDER BATTLE WITH VICTORY
St. Scholastica opened their four-game series in the UWS/CSS Border Battle with a 3-1 victory over the College of St. Catherine's on Friday afternoon at Motorelli Gymnasium on the campus of UW-Superior. The Wildcats (6-5) opened the match with a 30-25 win over the Saints (2-7) but the tables were turned in the next game as St. Scholastica began a three-game string of wins (30-27, 30-27, 30-21) to take the match and arrest a five game losing streak. A trio of Saints led the team offensively as juniors Dustie Richardson, Amy Thompson, and Shawna Varichak each had 13 kills in the four-game match. As a team, St. Scholastica finished with a .250 attacking percentage, a vast improvement on their previous weekend in which twice they equaled kills with attacking errors to finish with a .000 attacking percentage. Kati Berscheit was the catalyst for the front line hitters accumulating a match-high 46 set assists in the Saints victory. In the back row, the Saints registered a season-high 111 digs led by Diana Moody's match-high 35 and Cassie Roden's career-high 29. The Saints are scheduled to complete their Friday action with an exhibition match against Lakehead University from Canada. The Border Battle comes across the bridge with a complete schedule of matches on Saturday at the Reif Center on St. Scholastica's campus. Along with St. Kate's, Lakehead, and the Saints, also playing in the Border Battle are UW-Superior, Viterbo University, Northland College, and UW-Stout.
