Women's Soccer - vs. Concordia-Moorhead
KRESKY'S LATE GOAL HELPS SAINTS TO WIN OVER CONCORDIA
In contrast to Saturday's rainy, puddled field affair, Sunday's St. Scholastica vs. Concordia-Moorhead match was played under sunny skies and crisp early fall weather. And both teams matched the weather with sharp play both offensively and defensively. It wasn't until the 85th minute when either team would find the back of the net as St. Scholastica's Shannon Kresky scored her first goal of the season to break the deadlock. Robin Johnson, the 2006 UMAC Player of the Year earned the assist on the Kresky game-winner. Back in the Saints defensive end, goalkeeper Kelly Momsen had a busy day but stonewalled the highly rated Cobbers (No. 4 in the Central Region rankings) as she registered four saves in picking up her 16th career shutout putting her only four away from breaking the program shutout record of 19 set by current assistant coach and former all-conference keeper Kristin (Lammi) Goorhouse. Concordia had their chances with 17 shots but the Saints defensive backfield of senior Becky Fisher and sophomore Ellyn Litecky along with sophomore sweeper Cortney McKenzie built a protective umbrella in front of Momsen that allowed only those four shots on the all-conference keeper candidate. The Saints themselves had eight shots in the game but only two -- both by Kresky -- made it on goal. All it took was one, though, as the Kresky score pushed the Saints to a 2-1-1- record in the early going of the 2007 season. Concordia drops to 2-2-0 with the loss.
