STANIGER ANNOUNCES SAINTS RECRUITING CLASS
St. Scholastica men’s basketball coach David Staniger today announced his incoming recruiting class for the 2007-2008 basketball season.

Danny Schmitz (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) is a two-year All-Conference selection from the Great River Conference and was Honorable Mention All-State following his junior season. The 6-footer averaged 21 points and eight rebounds per game his senior year and scored 1,729 career points for Hinckley-Finlayson. He will join his brother Andrew (Sr.), the 2006 UMAC Tournament MVP, this season on the Saints’ roster.

Chris Hamers (Onamia, Minn.) scored over 25 points per game in his final year at Onamia HS while also averaging 4.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists. A 2007 Mr. Basketball candidate, the 6-foot-1-inch Hamers finished his high school career with 1,665 points.

Logan Schultz (Frazee, Minn./Perham HS) was the Heart O’Lakes leading rebounder his senior season and was the only conference player to average a double-double (10.6 rebounds and 12.6 points per game). The 6-foot-6-inch forward was the Perham team captain and MVP last year.

An All-Arrowhead selection his junior and senior season, 6-foot-4-inch Derek Anderson (Cook, Minn.) culminated his career at Cook HS as the career leader in points with 1,167. In his final year, Anderson averaged 20 points, 9.5 rebounds, and three assists per game. A member of the Region 7A All-Tourney Team in 2006, Anderson captained the football, basketball, and baseball teams in his final year at Cook.

Brian Wevers (Baldwin, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville HS) averaged eight points and more than three rebounds per game his senior season while earning all-conference honors in the Middle Border Conference.

Two transfers will join the five freshmen on the Saints roster next year, both entering St. Scholastica as juniors.

Six-foot-3-inch Troy Miller (Stillwater, Minn.) comes to the Saints after two years at Mesabi Range Community College. With Miller averaging 12 points and five rebounds per game as a team captain, Mesabi Range finished third in last season’s state tournament.

Transferring in from UW-Superior will be 6-foot-9-inch center Mike MacDonald (Two Harbors, Minn.).
